The steep slopes were not easily conquered. We elaborate our cuvée by looking less for power than for finesse. The dominant granite soils give it a typical straightness and elegance that characterise our vision of the appellation’s potential.

Nature

Situated on the right bank, facing east, the vineyards run alongside the Rhône on steep, predominantly granite hillsides. The Mediterranean influence can be felt and the Mistral winds work their magic.

The hand of man

Predominantly Syrah, yields of 35 hL/ha. Manual harvests, aged in new oak barrels for 20% of the blend.

Character and potential

Organoleptic profile: spicy and mineral notes, flint, ripe fruits and licorice underpinned by leather and dried fruits. The soils and exposure, combined with the characteristics of the Syrah varietal, give rise to powerful and elegant wines.

Notre ambition

Vision

Edouard Guérin: ‘Full de-stemming owing to the minerality of the soils. What we are seeking here is the purest expression of a Syrah planted in granite soils with notes of flint and ink, a certain austerity that is characteristic of wines from Saint-Joseph.’

Profile

Purity and freshness. We also seek to enhance the volume, structure and longevity of this wine. This latitude is ideal for the production of wines that evolve well over time.

Full de-stemming
– Natural pre-fermentation maceration at varying temperatures and for varying durations depending on the vat – Daily rack and return and cap punching if necessary
throughout the maceration period which lasts for 20 to 40 days – Controlled temperatures of 22 to 30°C.

AGEING

60% tuns, 20% demi-muids, 20% barrels for 12 months
